Couldn’t have asked for better start from Rajat Patidar, says RCB head coach Andy Flower | Ipl News

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s head coach Andy Flower is not only pleased with their start but also the manner in which their new captain Rajat Patidar has started the tournament. With two wins from two matches, RCB are set to host Gujarat Titans in their first home match on Wednesday.
And speaking to RCB website, Flower was in total praise for Patidar, who played a key role in their win over Chennai Super Kings last Friday. “It is just the start of the tournament, there is still long way to go. But we couldn’t have asked for a better start from Rajat. He has led from the front with the bat. Important for a leader to evidence how he wants to play through his own actions and he is doing that. I’m enjoying that — growing a relationship with him. Hopefully is in the same boat and enjoying it as well,” Flower said.
In a video shared RCB, Flower can be seen telling Patidar, “Remember when you bat, you don’t have to live up to any reputation. You use your cricketing nuance, play the situation and play to your strengths.”

Flower who is in his second season with RCB and is looking to end their title drought said, one of the proudest moments of his glittering coaching career was the franchise’s performance last season where they made a stunning turnaround. “A very proud moment for me personally was last year when, we were under a lot of pressure, had won just one game from 8 and then we turned it around, won 6 six in a row and made it to the play-offs. So the way we handled ourselves as a group then I was very proud,” Flower said.
Speaking of his own methods, which has seen him won titles in CPL, ILT20, Flower said, “I just challenge them whenever I’ve to. Your job is to win the battle, doesn’t matter what the conditions are. One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that certainly is working with the person is as important or perhaps more important than working with the athlete if you like or the competitor. If you are not looking after that person then it is very hard for him to be an outstanding competitor. You realise that the game is not quite that simple.”
