A new ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup record was created on Tuesday in Hyderabad as Pakan chased down 345 against Sri Lanka with 10 balls and six wickets to spare.
With Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique scoring centuries, Pakan overhauled Sri Lanka’s 344/9 in the penultimate over. Pakan’s 345/4 in 48.2 overs is now the highest successful run-chase in the hory of the tournament.
The previous record was held Ireland, who had famously beaten England in Bengaluru at the 2011 World Cup, led what many believe to be one of the best World Cup knocks, played Kevin O’Brien.
Third on the l now is Bangladesh’s win against Scotland in 2015, when Tamim Iqbal led the run-chase of 319 after Kyle Coetzer’s 156 earlier. Incidentally, Bangladesh also have the fourth-best entry in the l, this was Shakib Al Hasan’s turn to score an unbeaten century against West Indies in the 2019 edition.
