CSK vs MI tip-off XI: No place for Arjun Tendulkar, Shokeen returns, Santner to replace Theekshana
The five times champions of the Indian Premier League Mumbai Indians will take on the four times champions Chennai Super Kings on Saturday at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
Mumbai’s batting has been their strength. With Ishan Kishan hitting the form last game and Suryakumar Yadav coming back to his previous best the star-studded batting line-up looks unstoppable. However, bowling has been their Achilles heel this tournament. Jofra Archer after looking good against Rajasthan Royals was taken apart the Punjab Kings in the previous game. His coming into his full rhythm will be crucial for the success of MI this season.
Chennai Super Kings on the other hand have lost their way a bit in the tournament in the last few games. Back-to-back defeats were followed a shared point against Lucknow Super Giants due to rain. Similar to Mumbai Indians their bowling has let them down in the tournament. Tushar Deshpande despite being the leading wicket-taker for the side has gone at 11s this season. Mahesh Theekshna too has blown hot and cold. Mateesh Pathirana despite showing a lot of promise is yet to deliver a substantial performance.
Here’s the tip-off ahead of the CSK vs MI match:
No place for Arjun Tendulkar
The left-arm seamer has had a mixed outing in his short IPL career so far. He was impressive in his first few games in the tournament however, against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede, he was given a reality check. Against Gujarat Titans, he bowled a couple of good overs however, was not used again. Arshad Khan was brought in place of him in the following game against the Rajasthan Royals who bowled well. Arshad’s death bowling is a huge strength of his with his slower variations and a decent yorker.
Hrithik Shokeen in for Kumar Karthikeya
Chennai Super Kings has four left-handers in their top seven. On a wicket which asss spinners, he might be a handful. Rohit Sharma and co. might be looking to add the off-spin of Shokeen into their bowling arsenal. In addition to his bowling, Shokeen also lengthens the batting order of the Mumbai Indians.
Mitchell Santner in for Maheesh Theekshana
The Sri Lankan mystery spinner could not make an impact in the tournament so far. He has been going at an economy state of 8.54 in the middle overs and picked up seven wickets. In addition to his mediocre bowling performances, Theekshna has put down quite a few catches in the tournament. Mitchell Santner who started the tournament did well. In the first leg against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Santner, bowled well picking two wickets and restricting the Mumbai batters. He similar to Shokeen adds depth to the batting order and is an electric fielder.
