CSK vs RR: Why was Ravindra Jadeja given out against Rajasthan Royals? | Ipl News

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a bizarre dismissal in an IPL 2024 match on Sunday against the Rajasthan Royals after he was deemed ‘obstructing the field’ the third umpire at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Batting in a tricky low-scoring 142-run chase, Jadeja had made four of six deliveries when he had steered Avesh Khan down to third. While attempting a second run off the shot, Jadeja was turned down his partner Ruturaj Gaikwad after he was midway through the pitch. Jadeja then got in the way of a throw from RR wicket-keeper Sanju Samson, who instantly called for an obstruction appeal.
The on-field umpires then referred the decision upstairs. TV umpire Anil Chaudhary then felt that Jadeja had clearly watched the ball before getting in line of the throw while attempting to make the crease. Incidentally, Jadeja was also running midway through the batting strip. The umpire then referred Jadeja out as he was aware of the ball’s trajectory.
What does the rules say
According to MCC’s Laws of Cricket, Law 37.1.4 states that: ‘For the avoidance of doubt, if an umpire feels that a batter, in running between the wickets, has-significantly changed his direction without probable cause and there obstructed a fielder’s-attempt to effect a run out, the batter should, on appeal, be given out, obstructing the field. It-shall not be relevant whether a run out would have occurred or not.
