David Warner issues hilarious warning to Matildas ahead of World Cup semifinal: ‘Keep an eye out in case the Poms ask to change the ball’ | Cricket News

With an England-Australia World Cup semifinal in the corner, the fireworks are bound to follow. Just ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup semifinal on Wednesday, Australia opener David Warner took to Twitter to issue a hilarious warning to the Australia women’s football team.
“An early good luck to the @TheMatildas. Just keep an eye out in case the Poms ask to change the ball,” Warner wrote.
Warner’s reference is directed at the recently concluded Ashes series when a controversial ball change on the fourth evening of the fifth and final Test of the series at the Oval resulted in former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting calling for an investigation because he believed it helped the England bowlers. On the penultimate day of The Oval Test, it was smooth sailing for Australia at 126 for no loss. But the umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Joel Wilson changed the ball after Khawaja was hit on the helmet fast bowler Wood early in the 37th over.
While the Ashes series ended 2-2, a draw is an unlikely possibility on Wednesday with a place in final there for the taking. The winner of the contest will be playing Spain in the final on Sunday.
Skipper Pat Cummins was also quoted The Sydney Morning Herald with the regards to the fixture and what makes it a big contest. “There’s nothing more satisfying as an Aussie than getting one up on our English mates. I’m sure the Matildas will go out and kill it.”

Australia women’s team captain in the recent Ashes, Alyssa Healy also gave her share of thoughts around the fixture.
“The fact there’s not a lot of spice in it, I’m disappointed. Maybe something will come out. It’s two really great football teams. As a young girl who grew up playing soccer, it brings a smile to my face that these girls are doing something amazing.”
