Days after ODI World Cup exit, Babar Azam resigns as Pakan skipper across all formats | Cricket-world-cup News

Pakan skipper Babar Azam has stepped down from his role of the national captain from all three formats of the game.
The announcement comes days after Pakan were knocked out of the ODI World Cup in India after just four wins from nine games – a fifth time in the last six editions of the tournament that the team has failed to qualify for the semifinals.

Taking to his social media on Wednesday, Babar wrote, “I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakan in 2019. Over the past four years, I’ve experienced many highs and lows on and off the field, but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakan’s pride and respect in the cricket world.
“Reaching the number 1 spot in the white-ball format was a result of the collective efforts of players, coaches, and management but I’d like to express my gratitude to passionate Pakan cricket fans for their unwavering support during this journey. Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakan in all formats. It’s a difficult decision but I feel it is a right time for this call,” he added. Most Read

Having started off their World Cup campaign with back to back wins, Pakan lost track in the middle of the league stage as they lost four games in a row including a first-ever loss to Afghanan in the 50-overs format.

Skipper Babar Azam had been put under the scanner not just owing to the team’s performance but also his own form with the bat.
Even though the team won back-to-back games against Bangladesh and New Zealand towards the end of the league stage, the final blow to their tournament was dealt England.
