Days after player misbehaves with a woman at party, Delhi Capitals put in place code: ‘No acquaintances in room after 10 pm’

Days after an incident where one of its players misbehaved with a woman at a franchise party, Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals has come up with a ‘Code of Conduct’ for its cricketers.
According to the code, put in place for the “maintenance of the franchise’s public image”, players can no longer bring their acquaintances to their rooms post 10 pm and in case they wish to entertain their guests it should be in the team hotel’s restaurant or coffee shop.
The players also need to inform the franchise officials when they wish to leave their hotel to meet someone. The advisory, shared with the players after their win over Hyderabad Sunrisers on Monday, comes with a warning: Any breach of the code might result in fine or even termination of the contract.
The franchise allows WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends) of players and support staff to travel with the team during IPL. As per code, players and support staff have to bear the travel expenses of their partners, and inform the franchise officials before their family members join the contingent.

However, in case a player wishes to take anyone to their rooms, they need to inform the IPL team integrity officer and submit a photo identification to the team management in advance.
The Delhi Capitals are having an ordinary season so far, winning only two of their first seven games, resting at the foot of the points table. They started their campaign with five defeats in a row, after which several players’ kit bags were also stolen in transit from Bengaluru to Delhi. The equipment was recovered after a few days.
While not referring to any particular incident, the Code of Conduct says that for each member of the Delhi Capitals squad – players, support staff and management – the team’s vision and objective should be given utmost priority.
Delhi Capitals has also made it mandatory for all its players to attend franchise functions, and they will have to inform the team staff if they are late. The franchise had earlier verbally told its players that they need to be punctual as the franchise can’t afford them reaching their scheduled destinations late.

The team can ill-afford any off-field dractions if it has to keep alive its slim hopes of a playoff spot. They have had a recent upturn in results, winning their last two games and host Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next game on Saturday.
