Delhi Police conducting fair probe, players should allow investigation to be completed: Union Min Anurag Thakur on Wrestlers Protest
Union miner Anurag Thakur on Friday said that they are fulfilling all the demands of the athletes protesting at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi and urged protesting athletes to allow a fair probe, while simultaneously assuring that Delhi police will investigate fairly.
Thakur said that the Delhi Police have filed an FIR against WFI (Wrestling Federation of India) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will soon conduct elections to elect a new candidate.
“As far as athletes’ demands are concerned, I would like to say we promised to conduct fair elections and IOA will be conducting that,” Thakur told reporters.
“We promised to form a committee and we have done that too, FIR was to be lodged and Delhi Police have done that as well,” he said.
“They wanted fair trial and Delhi Police is on it, too. The Supreme Court, too, has announced its decision.”

Thakur also gave an assurance to the grapplers that the Delhi Police would take all necessary actions in accordance with the law.
“I urge the wrestlers protesting that all of their demands are being fulfilled, the court has given its verdict, I request them to allow fair probing and Delhi Police will do everything needed in the matter as per the laws,” he said.
The wrestlers have been sitting on protest since April 23, demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan alleging that he has sexually harassed seven female grapplers, including one minor.
However, the top court on Thursday closed the proceedings on a plea three women wrestlers, who have levelled sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan, noting that FIRs have been regered and the seven complainants have been provided adequate security. The wrestlers further said that they will decide the future course of action after consulting their seniors.
Earlier, on Friday, April 30, the Delhi Police regered FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and also named his close aide and the federation’s assant secretary, Vinod Tomar.
While the first FIR pertained to allegations of a minor wrestler and was regered under the POCSO Act, the second, based on the complaints of the women wrestlers, named Singh and Tomar, said police sources. A senior police officer at the Delhi Police headquarters confirmed that the second FIR, regered at the Connaught Place police station, names Singh and Tomar. Both have been booked under IPC Sections 354A (making sexually coloured remarks) and 354D (stalking).
