Red and Yellow Alerts Issued in Chhattisgarh

Raigad, Jangir-Champa, Balodabazar and Mahasamund issued red alert for 48hoursYellow alert across Mungeli, Gariaband, Raipur, Durg and Dhamtari dricts. Average rainfall of 762.9 mm reported so far.

Raipur: In a fresh update on Saturday, the State Met Department has issued alerts across 11 dricts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms. As per the notice Meteorolog HP Chandra Raigad, Jangir-Champa, Balodabazar and Mahasamund may witness very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. Thunderstorms are predicted across Mungeli, Gariaband, Raipur, Durg and Dhamtari dricts.

“A low-pressure area lies over north Bay of Bengal. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards. The monsoon trough now passes through the centre of depression over the northwest and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea, Erinpura, Kota, Satna, Daltonganj, Digha and thence southwards to the centre of a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. These activities are likely to result in heavy rainfall in four divisions- Raipur, Durg, Bastar and Bilaspur of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh till August 15,” Chandra said in a statement. 

According to the state revenue department, Chhattisgarh recorded an average rainfall of 762.9 mm has been recorded until Friday. So far 63 calamities have been reported since the onset of the monsoon. As many as 55 houses were completely destroyed while 471 were partially damaged as a result of rainfall during the same period while ten relief camps were set up in rain-affected dricts, he said, as per the report.
