Dharmendra threatened underworld with his ‘army in Punjab’: ‘You have 10 people, mere liye truck bharke ladne ke liye aayenge’ | Bollywood News

The anecdotes of Dharmendra’s heroism and daring stunts have been prevalent for years. In a recent interaction, actor-director Satyajeet Puri recalled several such instances about the He-Man of Bollywood and revealed how even the underworld would avoid messing with him.
Dharmendra and family were never scared of underworld
Speaking on Friday Talkies, he said, “At that time underworld was very strong. It was the time when if underworld call some actor, they would get scared. But Dharamji and family were never scared from them. He would tell them, ‘If you come, the whole Sahnewal will come from Punjab. You have 10 people, but I have an army. Ek boluga aur truck bharke aayenge Punjab se ladne ke liye (If I say once people will come in trucks from Punjab to fight with you). Toh tu mere se panga na le (Don’t mess with me). And they never messed with Dharmendra.’”
Dharmendra tackled knife attacker
Recalling another instance when Dharmendra tackled his attacker within a minute, Satyajeet shared, “Once a fan attacked Dharmendra with a knife and Dharmendra tackled him within a minute. These days actors walk with entourage, with six gun men and all, but those days actors like Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna would walk freely.”

When Dharmendra’s strong legs saved both him and a horse from a deadly fall
He also recalled how Dharmendra once didn’t just save himself but also a horse from getting injured purely with his physical strength. He said, “There is no one more daring than Dharmendra, Sunny and Bob Deol. I was his assant in the film Ghulami, and during a shot a horse had to climb up a palace and the stairs were made of marble. Dharamji’s duplicate was ready to do it, but he insed that he will do the scene himself. He asked just to get the area near the horse cleaned.”
He went on to say, “But the horse peed at its position, and nobody saw it. The stairs became slippery, also Dharmendra ji doesn’t put his feet in stirrup or the footrest while riding. He rides the horse freestyle. But as the horse climbed, it slipped and I saw Dharamji hit his left leg on the floor and the horse stood up.”
After the incident, Dharmendra was so angry that he went around looking for the film’s assant to hit. “But he was so angry in that moment that he got hold of the first assant’s collar but he managed to escape. He then went to hit the horse, but stopped himself. In that one second, nobody was around Dharmendra. Everybody ran away.”
Despite going through such a dangerous scene, Dharmendra showed more concern towards the horse than himself. “After he cool down, he gave Rs 200 to the horse owner as the horse had fell down and he must have had some injuries. He was worried about the horse and not himself.”Story continues below this ad
Having witnessed Dharmendra’s strength firsthand, Satyajeet admitted that any other actor in his position would have “suffered multiple fractures and would have spent 3–4 months in hospital.” He said, “But Dharmendra ji didn’t get a scratch and it is because his legs were so strong that he even saved the horse.”
