Dog helps British woman find matching kidney donor on a trip | Trending

A pet dog is being hailed a hero after it helped its owner find a kidney donor. Lucy Humphrey, 44, had been living with Lupus for 15 years and needed a transplant after suffering from kidney failure. In 2019, doctors gave her the grim news that she only had a few years to live without a transplant.

One day, Lucy and her boyfriend, Cenydd Owen, decided to go on a trip to a beach in Barry, South Wales, with their beloved pet dogs, Jake and Indie. While there, her pet dog Indie started acting differently around a 40-year-old woman Katie James from Barry, reported Daily Mail.
“Indie kept going over to this woman about 100 yards away.We were calling her back, but she wouldn’t leave her alone. We thought she had food or something,” Humphrey told Daily Mail.
The couple walked up to the woman and apologised to her for their dog’s behaviour. They even invited her to their barbecue. James happily accepted the invitation and brought some drinks to share. As they chatted, James learnt that Humphrey had been waiting for a kidney transplant. James, who recently signed up to the donor reger, immediately offered to be tested as a potential donor.

It was a remarkable stroke of luck that James turned out to be a perfect match for Humphrey. “It was amazing – Indie almost sussed her out and chose her. A surgeon told us it’s a one in 22 million chance to find the perfect match, and that’s what I needed,” Daily Mail quoted HumphreyThe transplant was carried out successfully on October 3, 2022, at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and Humphrey’s life was saved. Humphrey told Daily Mail, “I really needed this transplant. I’d been on the waiting l for several years. It’s completely changed my life already.”
