Don’t drop R Ashwin, but stop him from bowling in the powerplay: Kris Srikkanth to CSK | Ipl News

With Chennai Super Kings struggling at the top with their opening combination, former India player Kris Srikkanth has advocated for the inclusion of Devon Conway in place of Jamie Overton for their next match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
Having started their campaign with a win over Mumbai Indians, CSK have lost their next two matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals with their top-order continuing to give trouble. In three matches so far, CSK have preferred to open with Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi with Ruturaj Gaikwad coming in at No 3. With Tripathi struggling for form and Rachin blowing hot and cold, Conway’s continuous omission has raised eyebrows.
There are also calls for CSK to drop R Ashwin and bring in a seamer like Anshul Kamboj who would strengthen their new ball options.

And speaking on his YouTube channel Cheeky Cheeka, Srikkanth says Conway should come into the XI. “Conway has to come in place of Jamie Overton and also bring in Anshul Kamboj into the XI. With regards to Ashwin, don’t drop him, but stop him from bowling in the powerplay. Between 7-18th over he can be effective, with Jadeja and Noor Ahmad, they can easily slip in 10 overs at least. I will drop Tripathi and bring in Kamboj and then Conway in place of Overton,” Srikkanth said.
One of the big criticism of CSK is that they don’t give opportunities to uncapped players like the way Mumbai Indians do. This season, in their batting ranks they have the highly-rated Andre Siddarth warming the bench, and Srikkanth said the 18-year-old should be used as an Impact Player. “I would make Shivam Dube play in the XI and bring in Andre Siddarth as an Impact Player. Even Mukhesh Chowdhary is a good option, he has bowled well for CSK in the past,” Srikkanth added.
