Dragonfish shows its ‘invisible teeth’ in fascinatingly scary video | Trending
The underwater world is not just mysterious and mesmerising but equal parts scary too. Different videos shared on social media often show those sides of that world perfectly. Just like this video that was posted on the official Instagram page of Schmidt Ocean Institute. The intriguing video shows a dragonfish showing its ‘invisible teeth’.The video was posted along with a descriptive caption to explain more about this deep sea creature. Furthermore, the organisation also revealed why the teeth of the creature are called “invisible.”“If you thought invisibility cloaks were the realm of science fiction, say hello to the dragonfish and their invisible teeth. These deep sea predators are proficient hunters with a number of exotic adaptations, translucent teeth amongst them,” they wrote.”Researchers (Velasco-Hogan et al.) determined that the teeth of Arostomias scintillans are made from material similar to enamel and dentin in human teeth, but the organisation of those materials is different enough to make them completely transparent when wet and do not scatter light at all. Hence, ‘invisible,” they added.Take a look at the video:
