Erik Ten Hag on people criticizing Bruno Fernandes being Man United captain: ‘It’s crazy!’
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has conveyed that ‘it’s crazy’ that Bruno Fernandes has been criticized as club captain.
“I emphasize it all on Thursday, he’s so tough. A couple of weeks ago there was questions about his captaincy, it’s crazy,” the Dutch manager said.
He further added, “He’s such a big leader, he gives so much energy to the team. His determination, his passion, his resilience, we need such players if you want to win games and make trophies.”
Fernandes scored the sole goal against Aston Villa at Old Trafford in United’s 1-0 win on Sunday.
United currently sit fourth in the English Premier League with 63 points in 32 games and are have progressed through to the FA Cup final against Manchester City, having already won the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
Looking back at his first season at the club, Ten Hag added, “We felt the fans were behind us. We have to focus to be successful because that’s what the fans expect, they have to rely on us, we will focus on that.”
He further added, “When we keep performances like we do all season the fans are behind us, there’s lot of energy. United are fourth in the Premier League with six matches left to play.”
