Farmer dies in police custody sparking fresh violence in Mandsaur
A farmer detained by police a day ago died allegedly in custody of Bhaugarh police prompting his wife to attempt suicide and sparking fresh violence in Dalauda area of Mandsaur district on Friday.
Farmers reached Dalauda in groups from different parts of the district soon after information about the death spread; a day after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tried to enter riot-torn Mandsaur igniting passions.
“We have received information about a fresh crowd forming in Dalauda after death of a man. We are rushing to the spot too being situation under control,” Mandsaur district collector OP Shrivastava told TOI.
The deceased, identified as Ghyanshyam Dhakad, 30, of Barman village, was reportedly taken away in a jeep of Bhaugarh police during a spurt of violence in Dalauda on Thursday. His relatives claimed that he was travelling with three others on a motorcycle when he was picked up from Bhaugarh Phanta Square. His whereabouts were not known to his relatives since then.
Dhakad was rushed to Indore in critical condition by Bhaugarh police station in-charge Sanjay Singh, where the farmer was pronounced dead late on Thursday night. Ironically, he was admitted to MY Hospital in Indore as ‘unidentified person’.
“We have sent the body for a post-mortem,” MY Hospital (Indore) superintendent Dr VS Pal said.
Sources claimed that Dhakad’s death prompted his wife attempted suicide after receiving information about his death in Barman village. Police was deployed in strength to prevent any flare-up in the village.
The sequence of events angered farmers who gathered in Dalauda in the morning.
