Madhya Pradesh: Nine killed in Katni road accident

BHOPAL: Nine persons were killed and several others injured after two auto rickshaws collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday morning. The death toll is likely to increase, said sources.

The incident took place at Majhgawan village under Badwara police station of the district at around 10.30 am. Badwara is situated at a distance of around 85 kilometers from Katni district headquarters.

“One auto-rickshaw collided with a truck and then another auto-rickshaw which was behind the first one also collided with the truck. Eight persons died on the spot and seven who received injuries were rushed to the district hospital. Some of them hailed from Katni while others are locals,” Badwara police station in-charge Bundeldhar Dwivedi told TOI.

Sources at the district headquarters confirmed that one injured died while being brought to the hospital and treatment of others is going on.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured, reported news agency ANI.
