RCB IPL 2025 retained and released players: Three-time finals Royal Challengers Bengaluru are likely to retain Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal ahead of the India Premier League (IPL) mega auction 2024.
After the last mega auction South African Faf du Plessis was made the captain of the side and he has seen mixed results. Bowling has been the eternal issue for the franchise hampering them from being consent challengers for the title.
In 2024 they had a poor start to the campaign losing six out of their first seven games. However, they turned the tables around winning seven out of their remaining seven and qualifying to the playoffs losing out to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.
While there has not been a standing player from the season, as the tournament went on Cameron Green and Yash Dayal’s performances improved drastically contributing immensely to the sides unbeaten run.
Player retentions will become significantly important going into the new three-year mega auction cycle starting from IPL 2025. Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players and have an overall allotted budget of Rs 120 crore for the retention and mega auction.
If a franchise opts to retain six players, they can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players in either the 5+1 or 4+2 combination. While the capped players are segregated into three brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, an uncapped player can be retained at Rs 4 crore.
