Glenn Maxwell powers to fastest ODI World Cup hundred in 40 balls against Netherlands | Cricket-world-cup News

Glenn Maxwell got himself into the ODI World Cup record books as he smashed a 40-ball-hundred against the Netherlands on Wednesday during Australia’s league stage game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Coming in to bat in the 40th over when the team total was 266/4, Maxwell shifted gears in the latter half of his innings moving from 34 off 20 deliveries to 101 after his 40.
With this knock, Maxwell overtook Aiden Markram in the tally for the quickest hundred in the tournament. The Proteas batter had pipped Kevin O’Brien earlier in this edition of the World Cup reaching his triple figures off 49 deliveries, one less than what the Irish took to score his century against England 12 years back. Most Read

Maxwell’s previous ton in the format had come in 2020 against England in Manchester while his last century in the ODI World Cup dates back to March 2015 against Sri Lanka in Sydney.
Boosted Maxwell and Warner, who also scored a century up the order, Australia wrapped their innings to 399/5 from their quota of 50 overs.

Australia continue to play on the up at the 2023 ODI World Cup. Having started the tournament with back-to-back defeats against India and South Africa, the five-time world champions defeated Sri Lanka and Pakan coming into Wednesday’s game.
