Goat milk ghee: Should you have it?

Forget cow or buffalo ghee, the new variety on the block is prepared with goat milk and is being touted as a powerhouse of nutrition. This ghee is rich in vitamins such as B12, E, and D and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, said Dr Archana Batra, dietician and a certified diabetes educator.
She added that having goat milk ghee in the diet helps maintain a healthy metabolism and its essential nutrients, such as fatty acids, fill nutritional gaps, and regulate metabolism.
Minerals such as magnesium, copper, potassium, and zinc help solve dietary deficiencies, she continued. “100 grams of goat milk ghee contains 900 kcal calories, 99 grams of healthy fats that could be in the form of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats; 250 mg of cholesterol; vitamins D, E, and K; and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids,” she told .

“Goat milk is considered an animal-derived product, and those on paleo diets can consume it as it is lactose-free. It is more expensive compared to cow and buffalo ghee due to the low milk yield. The cost of goat milk ghee is 1,500-3,000 per kg on average, which depends on the purity and brand, in comparison to Rs 600 for cow ghee and Rs 750 for buffalo ghee,” said Dr Batra.
