Parveen Babi was married, her husband moved to Pakan and never came back, recalls Mahesh Bhatt: ‘He came to meet me when I visited Pak’ | Bollywood News

Parveen Babi went through a rather difficult time in her personal life as she was battling with her mental health problems. Parveen was once in a relationship with director Mahesh Bhatt, who was married to Kiran Bhatt at that time. In a new interview, Mahesh revealed that Parveen had once been married but her husband moved to Pakan and never returned. He shared that he only got to know about it after they were already in a relationship. While this topic wasn’t frequently discussed in her house, it would come up when her mother visited from Junagadh.
In a chat with BBC News Hindi, Mahesh said, “About her getting married, I got to know about it later when we were already in a relationship.” He shared that Parveen hardly brought it up but her mother would talk about it sometimes. “When her mother would visit from Junagadh, she would discuss this sometimes because then we were in a relationship. I was living with her. So there, it was discussed that she had been married once and then the man moved to Pakan,” he shared.
Mahesh said that many years later, when he visited Pakan, someone approached him to meet but he couldn’t find the time. “Many years later, in 2003, I visited Pakan for a film festival. There I was told that someone wants to meet you but I couldn’t meet them. I never said I don’t want to meet him but it somehow did not work out. I was thinking why would he want to see me? I was never a person who shut my door to anyone,” he said.

Mahesh and Parveen got in a relationship when he was married to Kiran, and was a father to Pooja Bhatt. In an earlier chat with The Times of India, Mahesh said that his films performing badly at the box office fractured his relationship with Kiran and he found his “physical self drawn to another woman.” “The scene was scary – I got into LSD and Parveen went through a series of nervous breakdowns. I went through trauma and a hell of my own making for two and a half years – this is reflected in Arth,” he said.
Parveen Babi died at 50 in 2005.
