Google says that impacted users can try restoring their Timeline data from the cloud backup. To do so, update Google Maps to the latest version and open it.
Now, tap on your profile picture from the top right corner and click on the option named ‘Your Timeline’.  On the screen that appears, tap on the cloud icon that appears on the top of the screen and choose a backup to import your data. In case you don’t have any backup, unfortunately, there is no way to recover your lost timeline data.
While several users claimed that they were able to restore their Timeline data from the cloud backup, others said that the backup was either incomplete or that they had no backup at all. Also, we recommend users to backup their Google Maps Timeline to the cloud as the option isn’t enabled default.
