Google’s Gemini AI grows rapidly to 350M global users, but still trails ChatGPT and Meta AI | Technology News

Google’s flagship AI chatbot app Gemini appears to have witnessed solid user growth in the last year, with over 350 million or 35 crore users globally up till March 2025.
The data was revealed as part of the ongoing Google Search antitrust trial, where a US federal court is considering proposed remedies for Google’s dominance in the search market.
Last month, the tech giant’s AI app logged over 35 million daily active users, indicating a surge in adoption of Google’s AI offerings as Gemini reportedly had just nine daily active users in October 2024.

The widespread consumer adoption of Gemini could be a result of Google’s gradual integration of the AI chatbot with Samsung phones, Google Workspace applications, and Chrome. It has also released Gemini 2.0 and 2.5 models since last year. These AI models are said to be demonstrably vast improvements over Google’s previous Gemini models.
However, Gemini might still have to play catch up as its estimates of traffic to OpenAI’s ChatGPT is roughly 600 MAUs in March this year, while Meta AI’s MAU count is around 500 million MAUs.
Last year, US Judge Amit Mehta had ruled Google’s search engine is an illegal monopoly. The three-week hearing in the case happening this month is related to what damages Google must pay and how severe the penalties against the company should be.

The testimony from the trial has revealed that Google pays enormous amounts of money to Samsung in a deal to have its Gemini AI chatbot pre-installed in devices manufactured the South Korean electronics giant, according to a report Bloomberg.Story continues below this ad
As part of the two-year Gemini deal, Google is supposed to give Samsung a percentage of its ad revenue earned from the AI app along with fixed monthly payments, the report stated. Internal slides shown in court also suggest that Google “was considering more restrictive dribution agreements that would have required partners to preinstall Gemini alongside Search and Chrome,” according to a report The Information.
