Have to look forward; good opportunity for us to do something really special in Australia: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News
India skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday said that while it was a cause of concern that the batters are not performing, the team has the ability to pull of special things in Australia.
“It’s a cause of concern without a doubt. If the batters are not performing, that is a cause of concern,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference.
“What is done, is done now. As a player, as a captain, as a team, we all have to look forward and see how we can correct what we didn’t manage to achieve here. There is a good opportunity for us to go and do something really, really special in Australia. We will focus on that,” he added.
With India’s batters collapsing under pressure throughout the New Zealand series, veterans Rohit and Virat Kohli could just manage 91 and 93 in the three Test matches.
The Kiwis would go on from strength to strength while the hosts could not bring their floundering campaign back on track and ended up suffering a rare and humiliating 0-3 whitewash.
Rohit defends coaching staff
The skipper also defended the coaching staff consing of head coach Gautam Gambhir, assant coach Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, Morne Morkel and T Dilip who have all come under serious backlash after the debacle.
“They’ve just come in, it’s not been a lot of time (spent) for them. They are also understanding how this team and players operate. This is obviously a first Test series loss in the two. It’s the player’s responsibility to make their job or make their life easier,” he said.
“It’s never easy for anyone to come in and start doing what they are doing. There are a lot of different individuals and they operate slightly differently. It’s been only four or five months now, too early to judge anything,” he added.
