Sydney Sweeney calls off wedding to Jonathan Davino, attends wedding of Glen Powell’s ser: ‘No compromise with her magical career’ | Hollywood News

Sydney Sweeney has been on a roll ever since the release of her blockbuster romantic comedy, Will Gluck’s Anyone But You, a couple of years ago. She was recently seen reuniting with her co-star Glen Powell at his ser’s wedding in Texas. This comes days after she called off her wedding to Jonathan Davino, whom she’s been dating since 2018.
While one would suspect loss of love, sources suggest that Sydney has, in fact, put marriage plans on hold to focus on her career. “She’s exactly where she wants to be. Most people would feel overwhelmed her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects,” the source told People.
While she was engaged to Jonathan since 2022, Sydney has been living separately for weeks now as the source confirms their relationship has been “rocky” for some time. Sydney even deleted a picture of her and Jonathan kissing from her Instagram handle, and has been sharing pictures of herself without the engagement ring. While Sydney was seen hanging out with Glen Powell ahead of his ser Leslie’s s wedding, a source told TMZ, “Sydney reportedly RSVP’d months ago. She’s been very good friends with the Powell family and has been very close with Leslie for a long time.”

“What did make her overwhelmed though was her relationship and her wedding. She didn’t feel right about it.” She is “in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago. This is what she wants to focus on right now,” said the source. Sydney realised she wasn’t ready to “settle down,” but took so long to call off her wedding because “it was hard for her to break it off. They didn’t split because there is no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now.” Sydney will be next seen in a new season of Euphoria, Michael Pearce’s thriller Echo Valley, Paul Feig’s psychological thriller The Housemaid, and a biopic of former boxer Chry Martin.

Sydney has always maintained a private life and calling off her wedding is not going to be treated any differently. “Everyone is always so curious about who I’m with and what’s that like, but I think it’s important to have something for me,” she told Glamour UK in a 2023 interview. The last time she discussed her relationship with Jonathan was in a 2024 interview to Glamour, referring to them as teammates, “We’re in it together. And we want to see each other succeed.”
She also maintained that she’s been looking after her finances independently and doesn’t rely on her fiance for the same. “I’m a very successful, independent woman who’s worked really hard. I’ve accomplished and bought everything myself, and I provide for myself and my family. You can be in a healthy relationship with someone and also be very successful without needing the man,” she said.
