How will the Serie A title be decided if Inter and Napoli finish level on points? It isn’t goal difference or head to head | Football News

Inter and Napoli are strong candidates to lift the Serie A title at the end of the season. This conclusion is not arrived at a horical assessment of the two teams or their unbreakable spirit throughout the season, but rather the fact that both teams are inseparable with 71 points from 33 games.
Both teams have 21 wins, 8 draws and 4 losses apiece. Only five games remain till the winner is decided and while other top divisions across Europe make use of goal difference or head-to-head as tie breakers, the Serie A has something different in store.
How will the Serie A winner be decided?
Owing to the fact that Inter and Napoli played out 1-1 draws in both of their League meetings, a rule implemented in the 2022/23 season states that if the sides finishing first and second are level on points, the winner of the campaign will be determined through a one-off game, in which the winner takes home the title. This rule is also applied for sides in 17th and 19th, but with the loser dropping down to the second divison.

The game will be played in a neutral venue. Unlike in knockout matches, the game will not go to extra-time if the teams are inseperable at the end of 90 minutes. Rather,a penalty shootout will follow, in which the winner takes home the Serie A crown.
Inter or Napoli: who has it more difficult?
That being said, there are five more games left for both sides to play. There is added pressure on Inter’s squad, given the fact that Simone Inzaghi’s men are in the running for the UCL, Serie A and the Coppa Italia. In the Serie A, Inter will face the likes of Roma, Lazio and Como, while Napoli have games lined up against Torino, Genoa and Cagliari among two others.
