Watch: BJP leader Uma Bharti vandalises liquor shop in Bhopal

Former Madhya Pradesh chief miner Uma Bharti shared a video, claiming that the liquor shops violated government norms asking the civic authorities to close them within a week

Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti on Sunday intensified her campaign against alcohol in Bhopal, entering a liquor shop and throwing a stone at the liquor bottles stacked there.Sharing a video on her Twitter handle that has now gone viral, Bharti said,” Several liquor stores sell alcohol to people in this slum inhabited labourers in Bhopal’s Azad Nagar. The entire savings of labourers is wasted on alcohol. The residents including women protested against the shops which are set up against government norms.”“The adminration repeatedly assured of shutting these shops, but no action was taken over the years. Today, I have asked the civic authorities to shut these liquor shops and kiosks within a week,” the former Madhya Pradesh chief miner said.

The senior BJP leader has been aggressively campaigning against the consumption and sale of liquor. Last year she had demanded a ban on the sale of liquor in all BJP-ruled states. She had protested against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government’s decision asking all drict collectors to send proposals for opening liquor shops across the state. “It is wrong to open new shops. I urged BJP national president JP Nadda to ban the sale of liquor in all BJP-ruled states,” she had said.
