Hrithik Roshan to make directorial debut with Krrish 4, Aditya Chopra joins as producer: ‘Adi convinced Hrithik to sit in the director’s chair,’ says Rakesh Roshan | Bollywood News

Actor Hrithik Roshan recently completed 25 years in the industry, and now, he has embarked on the next chapter of his career. Hrithik will make his directorial debut with the long-delayed Krrish 4. Hrithik has been the face of the superhero franchise for over 20 years; each previous instalment was directed and produced his father, Rakesh Roshan. The fourth film, however, will be co-produced Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films. Hrithik has worked with YRF on the high-profile Dhoom and Spy Universe franchises.
The Krrish franchise began with Koi Mil Gaya in 2003, and continued with Krrish in 2006 and Krrish 3 in 2013. The fourth film was first announced a few years ago, but the project showed no signs of progress. Now, with Hrithik taking over directorial duties, it will be interesting to see how he manages to strike a balance between filmmaking and performance.
In a statement shared with Variety, Rakesh said, “I’m passing the baton of the director of Krrish 4 to my son, Hrithik Roshan, who has lived, breathed and dreamt about this franchise since its inception with me.” He added, “Hrithik has a clear and a very ambitious vision of taking Krrish’s journey forward with the audience for the next decades. I couldn’t be more prouder to see him wear the director’s hat for a film that means the world to us as a family.”

Aditya Chopra and Hrithik Roshan are currently collaborating on War 2, the latest instalment in the Spy Universe. Directed Ayan Mukerji, War 2 also stars Jr NTR in the lead role. The film is expected to release later this year. Rakesh said that Aditya convinced Hrithik to take up direction. “It brings me so much joy to see someone like Adi as the producer of Krrish 4. It was he who convinced Hrithik to sit in the director’s chair,” he said, and added, “Adi and Yash Raj Films have the knowledge, understanding and technological might to produce this film and add great value to this project.”
Hrithik previously hinted that he wants to direct, as he grew up assing his father on films such as Karan Arjun and Koyla. Rakesh concluded saying, “Hrithik and Adi coming together as a producer-director pair with me behind them is a rare and deliciously creative combination. I’m sure they will turn Krrish 4 into a theatrical experience that has never been made in India. The dream is to make India proud globally with a larger than life experience like Krrish 4.”
In Koi Mil Gaya, the protagon gains superpowers after interacting with an alien. The second and third films focus on the character’s son, who is also played Hrithik. Plot details for the fourth film remain unclear.
