Hundreds of flights cancelled in Europe as continent braces for another wave of snow | World News

Western Europe is facing severe weather conditions as Storm Goretti hit the continent’s Atlantic coast. The storm caused widespread disruptions in France, Britain, and the Netherlands as hundreds of flights were cancelled, train services were disrupted, and roads were blocked.
As the daylight broke, Paris was hit heavy snow, halting bus services.
South of Britain is expected to be heavily affected on Thursday and Friday as cold weather warnings have been issued for vast areas of the country.
The French weather agency, Meteo France, warned of snowfall spreading across northern France on Wednesday. At the same time, Britain’s Met Office said that ice warnings would remain in Scotland but would be lifted later in the morning in most ‌of England and Wales.
Flight cancellations
Dutch airline KLM cancelled 600 flights that were scheduled to take off on Wednesday at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.
The airline cautioned that it was running out of de-icing fluid for its jets and that delays in its supply were making it difficult for it to replenish the stock.
The Schiphol airport said that it had ample supplies of a different de-icing fluid that it uses to clear runways.Story continues below this ad
France’s civil aviation authority directed airlines to cut 40 per cent of flights at Paris’ main international airport, Roissy-Charles de Gaulle ‌, and 25 per cent at the ​smaller Orly airport.
Meanwhile, some flights were cancelled in Brussels due to the de-icing of runways.
