Hurricane Melissa Live Updates: Hurricane Melissa, which made its landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday with a sustained wind speed of 185 mph and a Category 5 storm, has become the strongest storm to hit the Caribbean island since records were first kept 174 years ago. In southwestern Jamaica, the parish of St. Elizabeth has gone “underwater” while the hurricane’s eye is now turning northwards with an expected landfall in Cuba early Wednesday morning, where the impact of the storm can already be seen.

Tracking Melissa: Hurricane Melissa, which had earlier weakened to a Category 3 storm, has again strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane with 130 mph sustained winds as it nears southeastern Cuba, according to the National Hurricane Center. The centre of the hurricane is about 110 miles southwest of Guantanamo, moving northeast at 9 mph. The core of the storm would cross eastern Cuba during early hours of Wednesday.
