‘I don’t know’: Lionel Messi on prospect of playing 2026 World Cup | Football News
Lionel Messi in a recent interview with journal Fabrizio Romano revealed that he did not know if he would be playing the 2026 World Cup slated to take place in the United States in 2 years but presently he wanted to finish this ongoing year well with his Inter Miami outfit in the MLS.
“I don’t know (if I will play in the 2026 World Cup), they ask me a lot, especially in Argentina. I hope to finish this year well, and start the year having a good preseason, which I didn’t have last year due to all the trips we had,” he said.
“From there, I will see how I am doing and feeling. We are close, but at the same time it’s a lot of time and anything can happen in football. I don’t think, simply living the day to day without thinking beyond,” he added.
A few weeks ago, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner had said he has not put a timeline on his international future as he enjoys contributing for the national side in a lively environment.
“I haven’t set any date or deadline regarding my future, I just want to enjoy all of this. It moves me more than ever to be here and feel the love of the people because I know these could be my last matches.
“This drives me. Enjoying being happy where I am. Despite my age, when I’m here, I feel like a kid because I’m comfortable with this team. As long as I feel good and can keep performing the way I want, we’ll keep enjoying it,” Messi explained.
