I relaxed and had an easy walk to the wicket: Suryakumar Yadav pushes pressure aside to bounce back vs KKR

Mumbai Indians stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav said he was relaxed when he walked out to bat against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday in the Indian Premier League 2023 season after the side’s five-wicket win.
“I relaxed and had an easy walk to the wicket, took my time for the first 6-7 balls. And then I thought if I get my eye in I can take it forward. Absolutely, we just need to bat smart in the first 7-10 overs and later on we know what kind of firepower we have,” Surya, who stepped in for Rohit Sharma as captain on Sunday, said post-match
“We just did the same thing today and hopefully we carry it forward into the next few games. I would have loved to finish the game but very happy with how things went,” he added.

The 32-year-old scored 25 balls 43 at a crucial stage of the game helping Mumbai Indians get back-to-back wins. “We had a chat in the dugout, we just had to carry the momentum from the previous game and the boys put on a show. In the afternoon, I thought the wicket was a bit dry but the way the guys batted, it settled down in the evening,” Surya said.
Speaking of Ishan Kishan’s half-century, Surya said, “At Wankhede, 180-190 is quite chaseable and Ishan took us off to a great start.” The left-hander gave the side a blering start in the run chase scoring 58 runs in just 25 balls.

Earlier in the game Piyush Chawla bowled an excellent spell in the middle overs to restrict KKR for 185 runs despite a ton from Venkatesh Iyer. “That was a legendary spell from his side, he puts his hand up under pressure and he is a great character,” Surya said speaking of the spell.
