‘I think the best thing would be to sit them both down and put an end to it’: Ravi Shastri on Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir spat
Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri after the on-field spat between Royal Challengers Bangalore player Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautham Gambhir said that the best thing to do would be to sit both players down and put an end to it. He also said he is ready to mediate between the stars if needed.
Speaking on Star Sports Shastri said, “I think the penny will drop in a day or two. And they will realise that this could have been handled a lot better. Both play for the same state and they have played enough cricket. Gautam is a double World Cup winner, and Virat is an icon. Both come from Delhi. I think the best thing would be to sit them both down and put an end to it. Once and for all.”
“Whoever does it, the sooner the better, because you don’t want this to spill off. Carrying on, the next time they meet again there are words exchanged and one thing leads to another. The sooner the better. If I have to do it so be it,” he added.

After the clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore Kohli and Gambhir were seen exchanging words and had to be separated the two sets of players. Both players were fined 100 per cent of their match fee for breaching the IPL code of Conduct.
It all started when the LSG bowler Naveen-ul-Haq and Kohli exchanged words in the post-match handshake. Thereafter, LSG opener Kyle Mayers was seen having a word with Kohli and Gambhir interrupted pulling the opener away.
Kohli seemed to be trying to pacify Gambhir with his hand on Gambhir’s shoulder, but the conversation soon took an ugly turn.
