‘I want him to be carried on the shoulders’: Virender Sehwag wants Virat Kohli to be celebrated like Sachin Tendulkar after ODI World Cup | Cricket News
Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar are two of the greatest batters in cricket hory. Both players have broken numerous records and achieved incredible feats throughout their careers.
Despite the different eras in which they played, both Kohli and Tendulkar have achieved incredible feats. Tendulkar holds the record for most runs scored in both Test and ODI cricket and most centuries scored in both game formats. Kohli is the fastest player to reach 10,000 runs in both Test and ODI cricket. He also has the record for most centuries scored in T20I cricket.
The duo played together during India’s memorable 2011 World Cup campaign, where a young Kohli had lifted Tendulkar on his shoulders after beating Sri Lanka in the final.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag, a part of the 2011 WC squad, expressed his desire that if India wins the 2023 World Cup, Kohli gets a similar reception.
“Cheeku (Kohli) didn’t score a single century in the 2019 World Cup, this year I hope he scores many hundreds and ends up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Then, I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground,” he was quoted as saying Cricbuzz.

Sehwag also spoke about how India captain Rohit Sharma deserves a World Cup trophy for his immense contribution to Indian cricket.
“These two (Rohit & Kohli) senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was so close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup but missed out. Later he became the Badshah of ODIs, he deserves to win a World Cup trophy because he is a fantastic player.”
