‘I was waiting for my chance, hope to win the tournament’: Ishant Sharma on comeback against KKR
Ishant Sharma turned back the clock for Delhi Capitals and skipper David Warner found his trajectory back to ensure the hosts a maiden IPL 2023 victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The 34-year-old Ishant (2/19 in 4 overs), who is well past his prime, got his first opportunity and used his oodles of experience to peg back KKR inside the ‘Bowling Powerplay’.
“I was just waiting for my chance. I wanted to win a game for the team whenever I got a chance,” said Ishan during the post-match presentation.
When quizzed if he had specific plans to a certain batter, he said, “Depends on what kind of plans you have. Matter of time when you want to execute your plans. There is no lucky charm in the team. We would want to win every game from here on, qualify and hopefully win the tournament.”
Skipper Warner on Thursday revealed that Sharma was supposed to play the last game but his sickness kept him from taking the field.
“Ishant was sick last game. He was supposed to play the last game but that was unfortunate. He had a bit of fever so he couldn’t play. But he was definitely in the scheme of things after the first game we played here when it swung and seamed. Ishant bowled exceptionally well,” said Warner.
“We will have to have a good hard think when Khaleel is fit. Credit to Ishant the way he came out of sickness,” he added.
