‘If you’re going to just entertain, might as well be a circus’: Geoffrey Boycott slams England’s Bazball before Lord’s Test

England will be looking to level the Ashes series after their defeat in the opening match at Edgbaston when the second Test gets underway at Lord’s on Wednesday.
The second Ashes Test is sure to be a closely contested affair. Both teams have a strong chance of winning, and it should be an exciting match to watch.
However, England’s ultra-aggressive approach, deemed Bazball, has not gone well with their former legend Geoffrey Boycott, who launched a scathing attack on the Three Lions.
In a conversation on the Vaughany and Tuffers Cricket Club podcast, Boycott said that he did enjoy England’s brand of cricket but felt that they had deviated from the primary goal of winning the game.
“I enjoyed the cricket, it kept you on the edge of your seat,” Boycott was quoted as saying Fox Cricket.
“England were winning every session, but they didn’t win the match, and that should tell them something for the next Test. They lost sight of the fact that the object is to win and then if you want to entertain then yes, all means.”

“But why can’t you win and entertain?”
“When you get ahead of yourself – and that’s what England did – they stopped thinking.”
“If you’re going to just entertain, they might as well be a circus. That’s it, go be a professional circus around the world.”
“If you ask people in England ‘Do you want to win the Ashes, or do you want to entertain and lose?’, I know what the answer will be.”
