Amid concerns about the well-being of Imran Khan, and allegations his family that they are not being allowed to visit him in jail, authorities on Tuesday permitted his ser, Uzma Khanum, to meet the PTI founder in prison.
According to Dawn News, Uzma who was accompanied scores of PTI supporters, went inside the Adiala Jail and met the former Pakan Prime Miner.
The development comes as PTI supporters continue their protest, seeking the whereabouts of Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023, when he was found guilty on corruption charges.
PTI supporters also held protests outside the Islamabad High Court despite Section 144 being in force there.
As demonstrations were held in Islamabad, Miner of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry said Section 144 would be strictly enforced in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where PTI has planned protests, Dawn reported.Story continues below this ad
He warned that “whether they come to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) or the Adiala jail, action under Section 144 would be carried out without any discrimination,” urging PTI-backed lawmakers to “abide the law.”
Over the past few weeks, there have been growing speculations about the condition of 73-year-old Khan, whom his family alleges is being kept in solitary confinement at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
Khan’s family members have repeatedly alleged that they are unable to meet him for several weeks, despite court orders granting them permission.
On Monday, Kasim Khan, the son of the former Pakan PM, had expressed fears that the authorities are concealing “something irreversible” about his father’s condition.Story continues below this ad
“Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured or even alive is a form of psychological torture,” Khan told Reuters.
