In run up to polls, Shivraj Singh Chouhan tells cabinet to highlight achievements
BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has advised his cabinet colleagues to submit and execute roadmaps of their respective departments, highlighting the achievements and works undertaken in order to take on rival political groups ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.
On Tuesday, the chief minister discussed at length issues related to the various departments, performance of ministers and modules to redress grievances of the public. Chouhan, however, had to face a volley of complaints from his ministers on farm-related issues and problems faced by peasants in mandis, while selling their produce.
“There were several complaints from the districts on problems faced by the farmers in mandis and markets for selling their produce. Almost all the ministers had drawn the attention of the chief minister towards these complaints. Chouhan has assured to extend the procurement date to June 9 from May 31, as was announced earlier,” state panchayat and rural development minister Gopal Bhargava told the media after the meeting.
Sources in the Mantralaya pointed out that the government is going to take extra precautionary measures in view of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s Mandsaur visit on the first anniversary of the farmers’ agitation. The government is also holding discussions with the farming community in view of their announcement to stall supply of milk and farm produce from June 10.
Chouhan is also concerned over the performance report of several ministers, who are not visiting the districts and the growing lack of communication with district unit members and workers. Sources in the BJP said the state leadership has hinted that at least 10 ministers in the present cabinet might not get assembly tickets for poor performance and lack of coordination with party office-bearers.
