IND vs AUS: After returning from back injury, Shreyas Iyer scores first ODI hundred to boost World Cup credentials | Cricket News
Shreyas Iyer scored his first century since returning back to Indian colors from a back injury as India posted a target of 400 for Australia in the second ODI in Indore on Sunday.
Coming in to bat at three, Iyer would add 105 runs off the 90 deliveries he faced, collecting 11 fours and three sixes on his way.
“My focus was on the cramps, it wasn’t allowing me to hold (the bat) firmly,” Iyer said afterwards. “I was almost out caught and bowled, I realised that my top hand wasn’t working. When I was reaching the boundary line, I decided I am going to try and smash every ball. I felt that I got the team in the right position. I was happy throughout the innings. My mindset was to play the ball in the V. I wasn’t focusing a lot on hitting the ball hard, I wanted to time it. I was experiencing variable bounce. Thankfully we were able to take that momentum towards our side.”
Resilience & determination 👏👏

“Shubman and I, we played a pretty decent knock in the middle and we laid a great platform and steadied the ship for the team,” he would add.
Iyer had recovered in time for India’s Asia Cup opener against Pakan earlier this month, recovering from a back injury he’d picked during the Test series against Australia earlier this year. However, the 28-year-old would sustain a back spasm and didn’t feature beyond the group stage of the continental tournament.
In the 50-overs format, Iyer has been India’s second highest run scorer in the since the start of 2022, having nabbed 940 runs from his 24 innings.
At number three, Iyer averages 58.36 with 642 runs from 11 outings.
