Just as the Indian team took to their pre-match warm up session ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Virat Kohli was at the receiving end of a lovely gesture from Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli, who had broken Tendulkar’s record for most ODI hundreds in the semifinal against New Zealand to score his 50th century in the format, was gifted a match jersey the latter from his last ODI for India back in 2012. Having been part of India’s 2011 World Cup squad alongside Tendulkar and would pay tribute to the latter after overtaking his monumental tally of 49 hundreds in the 50 overs format.
Kohli has been in inspired form at the ongoing World Cup, having become the first batter to score more than 700 runs in a single ODI World Cup campaign that includes three hundreds.
The former India captain has the opportunity to also become the first Indian to score a century in the World Cup final with Gautam Gambhir having the highest score so far (97).
