India seam spearhead Jasprit Bumrah became the first pacer to record 50 Test wickets in 2024 as he removed Australia opener Usman Khawaja on Day 1 of the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide on Friday.
Birthday boy Bumrah is only the third Indian pacer after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan to bag 50 Test wickets in a calendar year. The 31-year-old reached the mark in his 11th Test of the year, featuring in all but one game India have played in the format this year.
Bumrah entered the Test after recording his first win as captain in Perth in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener where he racked up figures of 8/72 – the best bowling figures a visiting fast-bowling captain.
