India will take on England in the 2nd semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday. The game is set to start at 8:00 PM (10:30 AM local time), but passing showers could hamper the marquee clash through the morning.
“Intervals of clouds and sunshine with a couple of showers, mainly early in the day,” predicts Accuweather app in its weather forecast for Thursday morning (West Indies time).
What happens if India vs England is washed out?
The last-four clash between India and England will not have a reserve day on Friday but rather have an additional 250 minutes of playing time made possible in the event of rain at the venue. India will pip England if their tie in Guyana is washed out.
“The scheduling of the morning semi-final has presented an opportunity to try and obtain a result while the crowd is still in the stadium extending play further into the afternoon,” reasoned West Indies CEO Johnny Grave earlier to this publication behind not having another day.
Rohit Sharma worried about game going late
Rohit Sharma’s men knew well in advance they would play the semi-final in Guyana. However, the Indian skipper said that would not give his team an edge over England. “The only thing I’m worried about is if the game goes on until pretty late, we have a charter flight. We might miss that flight, but that’s OK. It’s the ICC and the Cricket West Indies’ headache to get us to the next venue.”
“Honestly not a lot has changed since 2022. We have tried to play with a free mind, T20, and ODIs as well. It all depends on the conditions which were challenging throughout the tournament here. We want to be a smart cricket team. I have kept things simple personally and for the players as well. We have done well with role clarity and rely on the players making good decisions on the field,” he said.
