India became the first team to 100 sixes in Tests in a calendar year during the first match against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli smashed the milestone maximum for India in the second-innings of the Test on Friday as they scripted the first-such instance across 147 years. Rohit Sharma’s side had earlier went past England’s record (89) for most sixes in a year from 2022 during the Bangladesh series.
India also rank third on the all-time charts, having struck 87 maximums in 2021. New Zealand round up the top five with 81 sixes in 2014 and 71 in 2013.

India also completed 300 sixes across formats this year, making it the third successive year where they have achieved the feat.
Yashasvi Jaiswal leads the charts for India, having smashed 29 sixes in Tests this year. Shubman Gill and captain Rohit follow with 16 and 11 sixes. Jaiswal is also closing on recording the feat of hitting the most Test sixes in a calendar year with former Kiwi batter Brendon McCullum heading the l with 33 sixes in 2014.
Meanwhile, Rohit (88) is also closing in on the overall Indian Test sixes record, currently held Virender Sehwag (91). Only three batters – Ben Stokes, McCullum and Adam Gilchr – have hit 100 sixes in Test cricket.
