IND vs SA: Sanju Samson named in India’s ODI team for South Africa series | Cricket News

Sanju Samson made a return to the international set-up after being named in the One-Day International squad for India’s tour to South Africa, The Indian Express understands.
India are heading to South Africa for a full-fledged series this month, starting with three T20Is, followed three ODIs and then ending with two Test matches that will be part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
Samson has been in and out of the Indian set up, and last played an ODI in August this year in West Indies. He then featured in the T20Is in Ireland. But the wicketkeeper batter eventually missed out on a place in the World Cup squad.
The 29-year-old made his ODI debut in July 2021 and has played 13 matches in this format, scoring 390 runs at an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104.00.

Rajat Patidar, who recovered from injury, also finds a place in Indian ODI squad, the Indian Express understands while Surya Kumar Yadav has been rested for the Indian ODI side as he has been playing non-stop cricket.

Virat Kohli has been given break from India T20 and India ODI squad while Rohit Sharma returns as captain in the shortest format after his absence post the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

The squads for the tour of South Africa were to be selected in New Delhi on Thursday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India senior selection committee will pick four teams which includes India A, India T20I team, India ODI team, and Indian Test team for the tour.

Recently, on a podcast, Samson had opened up about being thought of as ‘unlucky’ as a cricketer after being left out of the national team on a few occasions.
“I’m not very interested in that. ‘Aiyyyo, paavam Sanju! The most unluckiest cricketer!’ When I hear that I think, ‘what kind of foolishness is that!’ How am I the unluckiest cricketer? Where I have reached right now, it’s more than where I thought I could,” said the Kerala cricketer in a podcast called I AM with Dhanya Varma.
