Ind vs SL: Getting India cap from MS Dhoni icing on the cake, says Shreyas Iyer’s dad
Mumbai: Newcomer Shreyas Iyer’s ODI debut did not turn out well as Rohit Sharma-led India would have expected. After being bowled out for 112, where Iyer scored nine runs, Sri Lanka eased to a seven-wicket win the in first ODI at Dharamshala on Sunday.
However, Santosh Iyer, Shreyas’ father was a happy man, as his 23-year-old son recieved his ODI cap from former skipper MS Dhoni.
“We are very happy for Shreyas for making his ODI debut on Sunday and it was an icing on cake to have been presented cap by MS Dhoni. India’s wicket -keeper is a legendary cricketer and I am sure Shreyas will get motivation from him,” Santosh Iyer said.
“Shreyas could have continued playing with Dhoni and got a good score for himself which could have helped the team to get to a competitive score”, he added.
Despite losing the opening game, Santosh was confident of India bouncing baxk in the series.
“Unfortunately we lost the match but I am sure everything is not lost. India still can win the series”.
“I normally just send him positive messages and advise him to be focussed on the game. He, however, must be getting the best advice from his experienced team mates and support staff as he is representing the country,” he further stated.
His father, a businessman, took greats efforts in Shreyas’ cricket career.
“I had done what any parent would do for their kids by allowing him to pursue his dreams and we supported him always”.
“Shreyas has really worked hard to reach this level and I wish to thank the selectors for showing faith in him”, he concluded.
