IND vs WI: Smriti Mandhana sets new record in women’s T20Is with third consecutive half century against West Indies | Cricket News
Smriti Mandhana added another feather to her cap on Thursday as she became the batter with the most 50+ scores in women’s T20Is. The Indian opener continued her superb recent form and scored her third consecutive half century of the series in the decider against West Indies at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the 30th in her career. The hat-trick of 50-plus scores took her past New Zealand legend Suzie Bates, who has 28 half centuries and one century in the format.
Mandhana got to the landmark with a four over midwicket, scoring a 27-ball half century. During the course of the knock, Mandhana hit three successive fours in Chinelle Henry’s over and then followed that up with 4, 6, 4, 4 in Deandra Dottin’s over for seven boundaries on the trot.
During the course of this series against West Indies, Mandhana also went past Harmanpreet Kaur (3589) to be India’s highest run-scorer in women’s T20Is and second overall, behind Bates (4584 runs). Harmanpreet has not played in the second and third matches of this series with Mandhana leading in her absence.
Mandhana had recently set a new record in women’s ODI hory as she scored a century in the third match of the series against Australia in Perth. In a stellar 2024 in the 50-over format, that was her fourth ODI century of the year. In the process, she became the first-ever batter to achieve this feat in women’s ODIs. She also went past Mithali Raj for most centuries an Indian in the 50-over format.
