India is a batting-obsessed nation but Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja changing trend: Gautam Gambhir | Cricket News

India coach Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday praised the trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for changing the trend that India is a batting obsessed country.
Speaking ahead of India’s first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, Gambhir said, “India is a batting obsessed nation. But Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja are changing that. Bumrah is smart in Test cricket. It is good these guys are changing the trend.”
“Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world now who can make a difference at any stage of the game,” he added.
He also expressed confidence the batting unit, saying that it can take on any spin unit in the world despite the team’s struggles in the last ODI series against Sri Lanka where the Lankan spinners took the lion’s share of the wickets, handing India a 2-0 loss.
“Our batting unit has so much quality that it can take on any spin unit. There is a lot of difference between ODIs and Tests,” he said.
Meanwhile, littered largely with lopsided contests, India’s hopes of walking down that familiar path will hinge on sorting an uncharacteric batting infirmity against spin when they face Bangladesh in a two-Test series starting from Thursday.
After the first Test in Chennai, the two teams will face each other in Kanpur on September 27.

Bangladesh, who are fresh from a recent 2-0 drubbing of Pakan, are no pushovers this time and this will add to India’s l of concerns as they look to take that bold first step into a long season that features 10 Tests, including a possible berth in the World Test Championship Final.
