No one has said that this would be his final year…he knows when to retire: Deepak Chahar on whether IPL 2023 will be MS Dhoni’s last

Of all the narratives around IPL 2023, one remains bigger than the others. Will it be the last for one of the most successful captains in the league’s hory. Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Winner of four titles.
The question has been there since the 2020 edition, just before which Dhoni had announced his retirement from international cricket. At the end of the season, with CSK not making it to the playoffs, when asked if it was the last of Dhoni in IPL, he said, “Definitely not.” Returning back for the next season and lifting the title.
Ahead of the 2023 edition, the question still perss. Dhoni’s CSK teammate, Deepak Chahar however has brushed aside all the speculations.
“No one has said that this would be his final year. At least, he hasn’t. Hopefully, he will play more. We don’t know any such thing, we want him to play as much as he can,” Chahar told News India Sports.
He further added, “He knows when to retire, we saw it when he did in Tests and international cricket. No one else knows. I just hope he continues to play, it’s a privilege to play under him. It has been a dream to play with him. He’s in good touch as well, you will see that when he bats in the IPL this year.”
CSK will kickstart their IPL campaign in the opener against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, March 31.
