India vs Argentina (M) FIH Pro League Highlights: Indian men’s hockey team defeated Argentina in a nine-goal thriller on Sunday in their final match of the FIH Pro League mini-tournament in Antwerp. Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick as India prevailed 5-4 despite a late rally from Argentina. India conceded an early goal but took a 2-1 lead through goals from Araijeet Singh Hundal and Gurjant Singh. Argentina hit back before half time to make it 2-2 but Harmanpreet’s first goal of this leg made it 3-2 for India during the interval. India missed a flurry of chances in Q3 but two stroke were put away Harmanpreet in Q4. Argentina scored twice late to make it a nervy finish but India held on.
It marked back-to-back positive outings for India who had lost to Belgium 1-4 in their earlier match on Thursday but bounced back to give a good fight against the hosts on Saturday. Harmanpreet and co looked like a vastly improved side during their 2-2 draw against the Olympic champions. It wasn’t a win on Saturday. In the previous match against Argentina, another team that they will face in the group stage at the Paris Olympics, India played out another 2-2 draw before clinching a bonus point from the shootout, on a day PR Sreejesh was sensational between the posts.
Earlier in the day, in their final match of the Belgium leg, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team took on Argentina and lost 0-3. Celina Di Santo (1’), Maria Campoy (39’), and Maria Granatto (47′) etched their names on the scoresheet for Argentina. Argentina took the game storm in the very first minute, dissecting the Indian high press and penetrating to the shooting circle, where Celina Di Santo deflected Maria Granatto’s shot on goal to score their first goal. Indian defence held firm to keep the scoreline 0-1 heading into the second half. Argentina eventually added two more goals but a gritty second half performance wasn’t enough for the Indians to reger their first point in Antwerp.
