India vs Australia: ‘My brother kept his promise’, says Nitish Kumar Reddy’s ser | Cricket News

When Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah lost their wickets on Saturday and a famous Test ton for Nitish Kumar Reddy was suddenly looking like a task, the cameras panned to his anxious father. But he wasn’t the only Reddy family member who was feeling all the butterflies in their stomach at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the fourth Test between India and Australia.
“We were praying to God for it to be a century. We were very tense when the score was at 96, 99 but when he hit the century, we were speechless. We were very happy and proud,” said Nitish’s ser Tejaswi, who spoke to the ABC broadcast team on air about the feelings she had during the hundred. “It felt like it wasn’t him playing the game but me and my family playing the game.”
Tejaswi also spoke about how the emergence of Nitish was a combination of the dedication he had shown towards cricket and her father’s sacrifice. She spoke about how Nitish had promised to make it in cricket, a promise that came good when India needed someone to save the Melbourne Test for them after a poor first innings batting performance that saw the team at 221 for seven at one point.

“It’s been a long journey. It’s been a rough path. When my father sacrificed his job, there were many people who didn’t support it and said that he was making the wrong decision. But my father was sure that he was making a good decision. He always supported my brother and my brother kept his promise and proved himself. It’s a combination of my father’s sacrifice and my brother’s dedication,” said Reddy.
Tejaswi also spoke about when the family realised that her brother would become a professional cricketer and it was before his first big IPL contract.
She said, “It was before the IPL itself when he was in the U19. He scored 441 in a game and that’s when we realised, he has the capability and that he would make it big. He has always promised that to us.”
