India vs Bangladesh tip-off XI, Asia Cup 2023: Iyer comes in for Rahul, Shami replaces Siraj, Surya gets a chance, Shardul for Axar | Cricket News
India vs Bangladesh tip-off XI: On the back of three wins in the ongoing Asia Cup, India will be tempted to give their fringe players some game time against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on friday. The Rohit Sharma-led outfit had already sealed their place in the final, where they will take on co-host Sri Lanka on Sunday.
It is highly unlikely that India’s top-three would take a rest but the team management might pick KL Rahul, who is playing after a long injury layoff, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur, both have played one game, in India’s Friday’s fixture against injury marred Bangladesh.
Here are few tip-off XI for India vs Bangladesh match:
Shreyas for Rahul
Shreyas Iyer’s fitness will be keenly watched as he missed the Super 4 matches against Pakan and Sri Lanka with back spasm. However, Shreyas batted and bowled at nets on Thursday without any visible discomfort, and that should come as a pleasing development for the team. The Mumbai batter might replace KL Rahul, who had scored a brilliant century against Pakan and a crucial 39 against Sri Lanka in Super Four match. The question of workload management is pertinent particularly in the case of Rahul, who returned to action neary after six months and was on the field for three straight day.
Shami replaces Siraj
The humidity in Colombo has been energy-sapping, so the team management might just give a break to either Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Siraj. Jasprit Bumrah has bowled just 12 overs so far in the Asia Cup – five against Pakan and seven against Sri Lanka. He did not play against Nepal. On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj has bowled 19.2 overs. In that context, it would not be a major surprise if Shami replaces Siraj against Bangladesh. It is important because Shami has now been used as a back-up seamer behind Bumrah, Siraj and Pandya.
Hardik may be rested

India would like to rest their vice-captain and most probably, their most important weapon going forward into the ODI World Cup. Hardik Pandya has been excellent with both bat and ball for India. The all-rounder has bowled 18 overs in this tournament. He might get replaced Suryakumar Yadav, whose numbers are quite disappointing in the ODIs. Despite that, Suyakumar has been viewed as an important cog in India’s white ball establishment, and the think tank would want to give another chance for him to push his case.
Shardul for Axar
Axar Patel’s form with the ball will be a major concern for the Indian think tank, considering the left-arm spinner has been picked ahead of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal because of his all-round abilities. The left-arm spinner has neither been able to take wickets and contain the run-flow, an area where Jadeja excels. Axar has played seven ODIs this year, and managed to take only three wickets and his economy is hovering around six. And if India decides to rest Hardik Pandya and with Ravindra Jadeja in the side, Shardul Thakur, who has been picked as third seamer for India’s Asia Cup opener against Pakan, will make it into the playing XI.
